Two Chicks Farm, LLC

Team Behind the Vision

Brenda McMILLIN

Co-Founder, CFO, Grower, Farm Mama

Brenda has loved growing things — plants, animals, and ideas — for as long as she can remember. A lifelong gardener, animal lover, and creative spirit, she brings a deep sense of joy and purpose to every corner of Two Chicks Farm. What began as a retirement dream quickly blossomed into a family-run business, thanks to a few pivotal conversations with her son Klent and daughter Kelly — both of whom now play central roles in shaping the farm’s future.

Brenda’s passion lies in growing food with heart and integrity. Her happiest moments are spent talking to plants, composting with care, and watching butterflies, bees, frogs, and ladybugs thrive in the garden’s natural rhythm. Inspired by principles of regenerative agriculture and “perennial polyculture,” she helps nurture a farm that honors the balance of nature and celebrates the life within it.

Before launching Two Chicks Farm, Brenda spent nearly five decades in healthcare and a lifetime caring for animals — from vet tech days in her youth to rescuing pigs and dogs today. She’s also a pianist, writer, and self-published author who brings her creative soul into everything she touches. Now officially “living her retirement dream,” Brenda shares her days with her partner, her beloved animals, and a mission: to grow honest food that nourishes both body and spirit.

JANET (JP) POWEll

Co-Founder, Hen Whisperer, Nurturer of Nature

For JP, every egg collected is a sign that she’s done something right — a quiet confirmation that the hens she cares for are healthy, content, and thriving. She tends to them not just with feed and shelter, but with heart. She calls them by name, offers them treats, talks to them throughout the day, and shares her gentle spirit. In return, they follow her like shadows — her constant companions in the garden and coop.

JP is passionate about doing things the right way — slow, honest, and connected to the land. She finds joy in nurturing the soil, planting by hand, and giving back more than she takes. For her, farming is like taking the scenic route through life: it’s more meaningful, more beautiful, and deeply fulfilling.

Her love for the land and animals is shared by her daughter Kat and grandson Devin, who both help tend to the daily rhythms of the farm. Together, they form a multigenerational team devoted to caring for their animals, growing nourishing food, and preserving a way of life rooted in gratitude and respect.

At Two Chicks Farm, JP’s steady hands and loving presence help ensure that everything — from eggs to vegetables — carries a little extra care and connection from their family to yours.

Klent JEWETT

Co-Founder, CEO, Driving Force Behind the Vision

Klent’s experiences growing food in a childhood garden sparked his lifelong interest in agriculture and ignited a lasting commitment to learning about sustainable and regenerative methods. His continued enthusiasm for nature, foraging, and cooking fresh, seasonal cuisine from the garden helped shape the ethos and vision of Two Chicks Farm.

During the establishment of his first enterprise, Klent routinely traveled between client locations and project sites. While driving for extended periods, he often listened to books on regenerative agriculture and envisioned how he might apply those principles to his future farming endeavors. He aimed to capture more solar energy through layered canopies, establish perennial polycultures that avoid yearly tilling and replanting, support the soil’s mycelial web, and integrate livestock to reduce reliance on pesticides and external fertilizers. He sought to maintain nutrient cycling in the soil by planting cover crops with nitrogen fixers that work in unison with broadleaf plants and grasses. Above-ground vegetation would protect against erosion, while deep roots would enhance water absorption.

Years later, he was able to bring this vision to life when his mother retired and acquired a farm. The farm quickly became a family affair. Everyone worked together as Klent inspired and led efforts to improve the soil and adopt restorative, sustainable practices. All of this ultimately resulted in the creation of Two Chicks Farm.

Kelly JEWETT

Co-Founder, Farmer, Vision-Holder

For Kelly, farming is more than a livelihood — it’s a way of living in harmony with the land. With a heart rooted in sustainability and hands deep in the soil, she brings over a decade of experience in farming, landscaping, and community stewardship to Two Chicks Farm. Her philosophy is simple but powerful: grow food honestly, treat all life — plant, animal, and human — as sacred, and let nature lead.

Kelly’s background is as diverse as the ecosystems she nurtures. She holds dual degrees in Astrophysics and Forms of Knowledge from UC Berkeley and has worked on everything from food sovereignty movements in the Bay Area to urban conservation efforts in Flint, Michigan. A life-changing traumatic brain injury ultimately guided her toward a deeper purpose: cultivating food systems that heal — land, people, and community alike.

On the farm, Kelly lets her heart set the priorities, her gut ensure alignment, and her hands do the work. She believes that when someone takes home something she’s grown, they’re not just bringing home food — they’re becoming part of a much larger story about balance, resilience, and connection.

KATHERINE (KAT) POWELL

Co-Founder, Problem Solver, Creative at Heart

Kat has a gift for finding solutions where others see problems. Whether she’s fixing a fence, tending animals, caring for the garden, or tackling a tricky repair, she’s the steady hand Two Chicks Farm counts on. Creative, clever, and fiercely loyal, Kat brings a can-do spirit and shows up ready to help wherever she’s needed.

Raised in Santa Barbara and now rooted in the Sierra Foothills, she works alongside her mom, JP, and her son, Devin — part of the heart and hands behind the farm. For Kat, it’s all about family, hard work, and carrying on a tradition three generations strong.
